Protecting and inheriting the region through Tajima beef

Mikata County is located in the Tajima area in the northern part of Hyogo Prefecture. To the north, it faces the Sea of Japan in the San'in region and is blessed with abundant seafood, while the mountains are crowded with winter skiers. There is a ranch where ex-salaried workers continue to take on the challenge of leaving this mountainous village in the future and passing it on. Its name is Mikata Farm. This time we asked Kobayashi, the manager of Mikata Farm (a ranch), about his preference for Tajima beef.

Maintain local employment and continue the tradition through Tajima beef

It was Kobayashi's birthplace when he was poor, but his mother bought him high-quality meat to feed him. That sense of childhood still vividly remains. Leaving his childhood image in the back of his mind, he worked as a salaried worker when he was young and found it rewarding and sweating to develop human resources.
A big turning point came for Kobayashi. The company you attend runs a ranch, and you decide to part with it amid management rationalization. Mr. Kobayashi, who waited for this decision, decided to become independent and inherit this ranch. I was 58 at the time.
Six local employees were working at the farm when the company that owned the ranch decided to part with it. Kobayashi felt that if he did not protect the employment of young people who love this local resource (Tajima beef) and make a living by raising Tajima beef, the countryside would go out of fashion, so he accepted them and was determined to protect Tajima beef. When he became independent and took over the ranching business, his employees' pay was also strict and had to be reduced. Even so, our employees worked hard to support us through difficult times. Even now, the employee works hard with a smile on his face.

As in the village where they were born and raised, they keep local employment and tradition by raising calves born on the ranch, fattening them without hormones or steroids, and providing good Tajima beef to people's tables. Kobayashi's faith was honestly devoted to raising cows. The more they protect their cattle lineage, the more vulnerable they are to disease and the more management risk. But I dare to stick to that.
Through raising cows, Kobayashi has valued the growth of those involved.

A relationship of trust between cattle and people

"I never thought I would start Mikata Farm independently, even now," Kobayashi says. Animals raise only their children, but humans grow their subordinates (humans) in society and companies. Only human society can nurture human children in this way. He decided to accept Mikata Farm purely because he loves cows and wants to raise "humans" who raise cows.
And through this utilization, it was a pure belief that local jobs should be protected. They also raise their cows with sincerity by facing and raising their employees with solemnity. They can pursue the real thing because they also like it. They treat cows like their own children. It developed a relationship of trust between people and cows, which led to the present.
Also, he has come this far because he has been obedient to the guidance and advice of the administration;
because they were a group of amateurs, they listened to people's opinions and made improvements. Strangely enough, when he took people's opinions seriously and adopted them, many became empathetic and advised him about rearing. When deciding on a bait supplier as well, he has also looked at the people's personalities of the company they do business with. Relationships of trust with people support this business. He also got help from the administration to borrow money. He has been keenly appreciating various support of "people connection."

牛跟人的信認感

Initiatives for a recycling-oriented society (compost recycling)
